Several years ago Denali wandered into someone's back yard. His ears had been cut off in an apparent non-medical attempt at ear cropping. It turns out he was deaf as well. 

Adoption attempts were unsuccessful, but a foster home was found and this eventually turned into a permanent home. Denali was living the good life with other dogs, cats, and a bunny rabbit. He loved to swim in the pool and jump in the morning shower with his new mom.

However, now he is suffering the unexpected tragedies of human life, including a divorce, unemployment, and a home foreclosure. Sadly, Denali must find a new home, and fast.

Denali did suffer some kind of back injury several years ago and had back/spinal surgery. He seems to have healed fine, but he can't hold it indefinitely, though it is possible this could improve with a change of food (I've seen improvements like this before).

Many of the details are foggy right now. I am still trying to gather all the facts, but don’t want to hold up networking him for a few details. I’ll get more info just as soon as I can.

Denali needs a new home, a foster home, or a rescue group to take him. For any or all of these, standard interview, home check, reference checks, and adoption contract will apply. He will not simply be handed over to someone else, no questions asked.

He is a pittie mix, probaby 5 - 7 yrs old., 70+ lbs, neutered. Good with other animals.

Conroe, Texas: JRT Mix Needs to Leave Shelter

Hi All:

This little deaf Jack Russell Terrier mix has been at animal control in Conroe Texas since sometime in January and no one has been able to come to her aid. Mya probably got lost in the Christmas commotion and well, you know there are so many and it is easy to forget.

 

Anyway. Just received an update on Mya. She is still there and she still needs out of the shelter before it is too late. I have one completely blind dog and one JRT losing his sight to cataracts. Helping these special needs dogs is particularly rewarding. They appreciate love and a safe place more than you can imagine. I know that this little girl would too.

 

So, please look at her picture and consider adopting, rescuing, fostering for a rescue or donating to help a rescue defray any medical and/or boarding expenses. If you are unable to help her, please post far and wide. Don't let distance deter you -- I know that we can figure out how to get her transported to whomever has a space in their home and heart.

Irving, TX: Outdoor Cat Needs a Home

Mr. White - who when the cat first showed up in my neighborhood I named Snow White thinking it was a female. Very people friendly, I was able to pick up and pet. Was busy for a few days and then when I took Mr. White to the vet to get fixed I realized he was a male, hence dropping the Snow part of his name. I have a colony of 12 use-to-be ferals (a few still kinda keep their distance) all fixed and we have a lovely community till Mr. White came along. He doesn't geehaw well with the others. He has also taken to harrassing the cat across the street too, all in a bid for food, which there is plenty of for all .

I found out from my neighbor across the street that Mr. White is stone deaf, he does NOT have blue eyes, hence maybe some of his acting out. I use the Animal Wellness collection of flower essences on all my cats - him included to keep behavior calm and peaceful among the pack. Tho Mr. White is not to hep on taking the drops from me. I feel like he used to be an indoor cat and is very used to and friendly with people, and someone dumped him in the neighborhood. I would love to see him go to someone who wants a single white beautiful cat in their home or out on a farm where he can roam freely and not feel he is in competition with other cats for food. As I said earlier he is fixed and had a rabies shot and flee treatment - the basics that the Feral Friends vets do. Have no idea how old he is - maybe around 3 or 4 years old.

Alvarado, TX: Abandoned 3rd time and Needs a Safe Place

3rd time in a year!

Sunday we found out that the neighbors in back of us had moved. They had a beautiful white dog that they kept chained to a telephone pole with a dog house. No shade at all. I guess they thought he would get into the dog house to get out of the sun (and COOK). When I investigated more closely, I found that he had no food, no water. What were they thinking: when he got hungry, he'd just go somewhere and someone would pick him up and feed him? Or shoot him? Or get run over? Sometimes I just hate people! God forgive me!

It's just unbelievable. He was really hungry. We moved his chain and dog house under the carport so he can have shelter. We're feeding him and making sure he has water at least twice a day. We let him off the chain to run. But we're not comfortable leaving him off for his own safety. He isn't very old - maybe a year. He has the most wonderful personality, smiles all the time. Happy, runs around barking. Comes and sits in front of you. Loves everybody. Starved for attention. Is not food aggressive. Loves to be brushed and petted. He doesn't know what to do with treats - buries them, I guess for his next meal.

A family moved in summertime in July and wanted to keep him. I don't know when they moved, but they're gone and he's still there. We are feeding him and caring for him. He has shelter - carport and 2 dog houses - is still on his steel cable, but we have no other way to contain him.

We obviously need help. Actually I think he may be house trained. The trailer was open yesterday and I went in looking for some clue of the owner. He came in with me and went over in the corner and laid down. He's very docile.

Sasha has had a hard life so far. She is a very sweet girl, who happens to be deaf. She had been adopted a long time ago, but got returned when they just didn't have time to take care of her. She has been around children and is ok with them, but does need to be in a home that knows how to behave around a deaf dog. She is housetrained, spayed, current on vaccinations, and ready to go home with her special person today.

SUPER URGENT in HOUSTON TEXAS: Oh, my. Look at this poor, pathetic boy. So sad. This 6-year old male Doberman is BLIND, DEAF, EMACIATED and HW-positive. He is currently being housed at the BARC animal control facility in Houston, TX. This is a VERY high-volume, high-kill shelter, so this dog has virtually no chance of being adopted.

This is Amanda from the Lampasas Animal Shelter. We are desperately in need of a rescue that may be able to help this wonderful little dog. Her name is Imp, and she is possibly a fox terrier/chihuahua cross, and is about two years old if I remember correctly. We thought she would go fairly quickly, but it's a good thing she didn't. After a couple of weeks in the shelter, it became obvious that Imp was pregnant. Lately, it looks as if she is getting close to term. We moved her into a private room over the weekend just in case she had her puppies, and when we did, we realized something that had been impossible to notice in the noisy kennel - Imp is deaf as well as pregnant. She is very sweet, and is suprisingly good with kids. She has never shown any sign of aggression; not even a nip if you wake her up. We actually had her out with a group of 4-H kids a couple of weeks ago, and she loved it. She does great on a leash, and loves to cuddle.

Due to her disability, let alone her pregnancy, we know that it will be almost impossible to place her from here in the shelter. We also understand that it will be difficult for you as rescues to find her a loving home. In other words, we know that this is a long shot, but we wanted to try just in case. If you can help, or know of another group that may be able to help us save this loving little girl, please let us know. I could go on and on about how awesome Jill is but let me give you the summary. She was born deaf and with only one eye. She was dumped by the breeder, that's how she came to us. We are looking for a rescue or adopter that has experience with deaf or visually impaired dogs. Jill is unbelievably smart. At 12 weeks she is sitting, kennel training, leash training, and she learns more everyday. She is very loyal and gets attached quickly. She follows me around 24/7 and never takes her eye off of me. She loves her stuffed toys and will bring them back and fetch them for hours if possible. She loves other dogs and looks to them for guidance, she mimics them and does what they do. She is truly a diamond in the rough! Please pass the word about this deaf visually impaired girl, her "special needs" do not keep her from being a normal puppy but her training and needs will be different than a regular dog. I have taken her home with me to get her out of the shelter until we can find her a home or rescue. I have pics I can send anyone interested.

San Antonio, TX: Border Collie Mix Pup Needs Help

Good morning,

I am trying SO hard to find a new home for the little doggie we adopted from craigslist in April. If I don't find him a new home or temporary new home this week, I'm going to have no choice but to take him to a shelter. He is a husky mix with we think border collie. About eight months old, all shots, neutered, chipped, deaf, very active dog. We had no idea he was deaf when we adopted him and truthfully that doesn't bother us.
What does bother us is how aggressive he is to our other dogs, primarily the male. I think he is just playing but WAY too rough, he hurts them. He needs a yard with a fence and no other large dogs. He MUST have a new home because we can't keep him. Please let me know if you need any other information. We are located in the Hill Country, near San Antonio, Texas. Thanks.
