SE Missouri: Great Dane Has Until Tomorrow

Contact Carol at: ozarkdogs@suddenlink.net

Does anyone know a rescue for either deaf dogs or Great Danes? I tried placing this big boy but it was a disaster. The adopter ended up being bitten a few hours ago. I was not there, but from what the transporter said, it sounds like "Big Dog" was either being protective of the transporter (a woman) or felt threatened by the adopter (a man) reaching towards them. He is a sweet dog who never showed aggression before. The owners ( a mother and adult son) lost their home and have to be out Sunday 8/1. Big Dog has no where to go. I have no room and I am obviously not experienced with deaf dogs to make the right decisions. If I have a committment,
I will board him a week while transportation can be arranged, but I must have a definite by Monday morning or they will be taking him in to be PTS.

Sincerely, Carol

Birmingham, AL: Deaf Great Dane Needs Foster

I am desperately seeking a knowledgable foster for this young deaf great dane. I have a potential dane owner who runs a doggy daycare here in Birmingham, who is thinking of fostering but nothing certain and I hate for too much time to pass. The shelter will work with me and they are open 7 days a week too which is great since I have a career on top of my own rescue and work Mon-Fri 7am-6pm.

Savannah is a beauty. I spoke to the shelter rescue coordinator and she gave me some insight on her.

- owner surrender (owner said that he had landlord problems)
- she is good tempered and seems to be irritated with the shelter life
- she was not to fond of other dogs coming up behind her while she was eating but is fine with the dogs when no food is around. There was no full out attack-aggression but just a snarl and warning.
- she is 12-14 mos old
- if you are able to foster or know of someone, she will come FULLY vetted to you

If you or someone you know might can foster her for Peace Love & Dog Paws Rescue, Inc. we would be able to save her life!!! I can't turn my back on her and must help her. She needs someone who understands her but also understands that she is a young playful pup and with the right training (hand signals, etc) she will be a wonderful companion. The staff at the shelter is not sure if she knows any signs because they do not know any. Thank you very much!!

Deaf Great Dane Puppy Needs Donation

From reading the information about Bella, it seems Bella has gone through a lot for a puppy. A lot of money has been spent on her for different health problems. The latest has been parvo and it's a serious illness. To learn more about parvo, go to:

Veterinary Q & A: Parvovirus Infection in Dogs

Bella is with
Patti Mauldin at Valhalla Rescue. The rescue that pulled Bella from a kill shelter and Bella was fortunate to be given a chance. She needs to be fully recovered before she is up for foster then adoption.

You have the choice of making a donation through chipin that's available on the link or mail a check directly to the VCA Animal Hospital on behalf of Bella. Make sure to put Bella's name for the Vet Office to know who the money is intended for. Go to their website: http://www.vcahospitals.com/pacific-avenue-south and look for the address where to mail a check.

With the economy not being in its best shape, donate what you can and/or spread the word. If we could get 1,200 people to donate one dollar and the goal would have been accomplished and still be able to help other animals in need.

All the updates and pictures along with chipin can be found on this link:

World Tallest Dog is Deaf and Blind!

Titan, a Great Dane named the world's tallest dog, with his owner Diana Taylor in San Diego.

Titan, the Deaf and Blind Great Dane made it in the Guiness Book of World Records.
It is nice a deaf dog gets this worldwide recognizance. Especially so when sign language, which is appreciated, cherished and valued by many in the Deaf community, is used to communicate with a deaf dog. And it is said that later on when Titan lost some vision, tactile was used as a form of communication. Titan not only lives with his human mom but also another Deaf Great Dane and a hearing German Shepherd. What is even wonderful is that Titan was adopted from www.petfinder.com, where you go to find adoptable pets that are found at shelters and rescue groups across the country. Go to Titan's Website

Here are several articles about Titan:
