Fredericksburg, VA: Deaf and Blind Cat Needs Help!

Before you read about this deaf and blind cat, a deaf blind cat can lead a normal and wonderful life like any other cats. Here's the link with video that was posted here some time ago of a deaf blind cat with a hearing blind cat:

http://deafanimals.blogspot.com/2008/03/deaf-blind-cat-and-blind-cat-having_31.html

A neutered long-haired (matted) white male cat (name Tuffy) came into the Spotsylvania County Animal Control Shelter yesterday by his owner. He is deaf, blind and extremely matted. His control # is 1253. If there is anyone that can help get this guy out of jail, please contact the shelter directly.

Super friendly. I do not have any additional information other than the fact that he is not in the main cat room where visitors would see him. He is in the back in observation because he is matted, deaf and blind. The shelter does not consider that very adoptable qualities. Poor Tuffy does not stand a chance in this place where they have a hard time getting the cute, fluffy and perfect cats adopted. Someone needs to rescue him as we never know when his time will be up.

Manahawkin, NJ: Abused Deaf Dog Needs Help!

I am a volunteer at the Southern Ocean County Animal Facilty in Manahawkin, NJ. We recently were brought a dog whose body is full of scars, and who has been determined to be deaf. The shelter staff suggested that the dog may have been used as a "bait dog" for a dog fighting ring. He was clearly abused regardless, and it is very sad.

I read the dog's cage card today, and it appears they've listed him as a bulldog mix. This little guy has been temperament tested, and failed. No doubt it is due to the abuse he must have endured.

Please, if you are a rescue (or know of one which can help) and have any interest in this poor abused and deaf angel, contact the shelter and inquire about him while I try to gather more information. I would be willing to personally assist in transporting this dog someone can help him (some locations may be far, but see what can be worked out - where there's a will there's a way). He's the victim and doesn't deserve death after all he's been through.

Key notes: CHAMP IS DEAF. He is also scarred all over his body, and the staff believes he may have been used as a "bait dog" in a dog fighting ring. He did not pass his temperment test, no doubt due to his abuse and his deafness :( ...so now the staff does not feel comfortable letting the volunteers walk him. He sure has had a tough and unfair life.

Champ has been walked by volunteers prior to his test, and had never shown the walkers any gruff or negativity, just sad puppy dog eyes. We, with the staff, changed his bedding yesterday afternoon (post-temperament test) and Champ came out of his kennel calmly and sadly blinked at us as we made up his new bed. Since he couldn't hear us coming we had to get his attention by gaining his sight. It is heartbreaking. He just needs some love and kindness and help.

He is faced with imminent euthanasia if no alternative is found, and I truly do not know how much time he has before that action is exercised. Please contact the shelter for expedited action immediately if your organization can help him. Please :(

I have attached a photo of CHAMP, he needs help, not euthanasia. Unfortunately as this is a county facility, Champ needs the help of a rescue like yours to save him from euthanasia now. I'm desperate to save this poor little boy.

A Young Deaf Pit Bull in NJ

To be euthanized on 1/24/10 at 12 pm
Hello. My name is Valerie. I work at the Camden County Animal Shelter in Blackwood, NJ. I am seeking a rescue, adopter, or a foster home for a much needed dog! I am willing to transport her to a rescue willing to take her, too! Here is her bio, feel free to crosspost this! Her pictures are attached!

Meet our beautiful Pit x named Winter. She is a young, sweet deaf girl... only about 1 years old. She is very treat motivated, so training her should be easy, but of course requires patience! She is very smart girl and energetic! She loves to play with toys and run around, however when she's all pooped out, she would love to lay by your side! She loves belly rubs, too! Winter is very friendly with everyone she meets, however we recommend older kids for her since she is a little nippy. She also needs to be the only pet in her new home. She could use some basic leash training, but all in all, she is a loving girl with a great personality! There's still plenty of time to improve on her basic manners and what her boundaries are going to be in her new home. Winter keeps her kennel clean, so she may even be house-trained! Winter is currently at the Camden County Animal Shelter in Blackwood, NJ.

Please let me know if you have any room available to help this wonderful girl by e-mailing me at ValerieP91 @ yahoo.com (without the spaces)!

Deaf Senior Beagle in NC is Sad

Hey All,

If anyone knows anyone that would be willing to take a 16 year old Beagle, Homer, that is VERY over weight and mostly deaf please let me know. I have a client that has a 1 year old and Homer has snapped at her a few times now and showing a lot of aggression towards the baby. She has tried gating him, putting him in a different room, etc.....he then becomes destructive. He has always had full reign of their home, she said it's just getting worse and she can't handle it anymore.

She has contacted all the shelters and rescue groups within 3 hours of Raleigh, has sent tons of emails and begging for someone to take him and has no luck yet........if no home is found she is putting Homer to sleep, she had an appointment for that today but cancelled it and everyone is trying to help her find a home for him by Friday. I know it's a tough decision and sad and I am not happy hearing about it but she feels she has no choice, her child comes 1st, etc......

She wants the dog to be happy and go to a good home, but needs a home ASAP. Please spread the word you may have already heard about poor Homer, again, it's so sad!!!!

Happy Holidays to All!

Deaf American Bulldog Pup in GA

He is deaf and knows hand signal
He is all white, with just one dark spot on the nape of his tail. We believe he is deaf, which is not unusual for white dogs and by far not a reason to euthanize a dog. In fact, Domino already knows a hand signal – SIT! Domino is still very young. We estimate his age around 5-6 months. Due to this, he has all the puppy energy you can imagine. We noticed he does not like water much but one thing that stands out above all is the fact that Domino LOVES little kids!!! Pretty much all of his attention was directed at Leo, the toddler of one of the rescue volunteers, when he was in the exercise field. All Domino wanted to do was be near him and play with him. If Leo left the field he would sit at the gate and whine for him to come back. Domino would be great for a family with kids. He's a sweetheart! Unfortunately, Domino is NOT good with other dogs.

To adopt Domino, you will have to fill out an adoption contract, which includes a mandatory spay/neuter agreement. You will be required to purchase a low-cost neuter voucher and pay $8 for his Rabies shot and a micro chip. For more information, please e-mail newbeginningsanimalrescue@gmail.com. or Jen at jen.ellis88@yahoo.com. We hope to hear from you before it is too late for Domino.

Newborn Sibling Pups Dumped in a Kill Shelter!

UPDATE: EUTHANIZED! Both pups contracted parvovirus from being at the shelter too long and it is contagious. One died and the other was put down. Vaccinations would have protected them from parvovirus. What is upsetting is that the breeder who dumped them didn't even bother to vaccinate these innocent pups first!

There are 2 ten week old pups now that a breeder brought to the shelter, Hattiesburg, MS, because they were deaf and blind. Both are males. The breeder had just brought them in when we got out there and they were bathing them so these pups are new even to the shelter. The one is definitely blind and deaf and the other they are questioning that he MAY see some but they are not sure at all!!!!!!! They are doing well in their run and know where their dishes and bed is!! They REALLY need to be kept together!!! They are very bonded and rely on each other. I am the contact person for these pups!!

Please Help! 4 years old Deaf JRT has 24-48 Hours Left!

FURTHER UPDATED: After the email about Gus's euthansia went around, a good number of people, deaf and hearing, were upset about this as he had a good chance, especially one has offered to drive up from Missouri to take him. One of the people from the deafdogs group shared this story:

"It isn't just parents that need to teach the kids! In my neighborhood, I'm known as the 'crazy bitch' lady. A moniker that I proudly wear! I was walking my dog (big o' deaf Ambully) past the park and saw some kids throwing rocks at a raggedy little spaniel mix. Well, I got on my cell and called the cops and then started throwing rocks at the kids! I got a good one right in the middle of the back! The cops showed up about the same time as this little boy's mom. She went off on me and I went off on her and the kid! I got a $10.00 ticket which the judge said I should have followed "appropriate" channels to teach the boy a lesson. (I thought I did!) The mom got 2 tickets totaling $500.00. One for animal cruelty and the other for not controlling her kid."

UPDATED: EUTHANIZED. It is with regret that the owner didn't want to wait for 24-48 hours as requested by Kim when owner asked her to find him a home and instead, she went ahead to her vet to have Gus euthanized. Gus paid the consequences when the owner allowed the kids to be mean to Gus. That is why we need to do our part because there are rescuers like Kim who have too many dogs.

I work in a grooming shop. I received a call from an older woman. She has a 4 years old deaf and housebroken JRT. He is updated on his shots, but he is not neutered. She got him from a breeder who got him back because of his deafness. I guess things were going fairly well until she became a guardian of 2 small children. The children have not been very nice & he has bit & snapped at them. Everyone in her family says the dog has to go. I know rescues are full. I do miniature schnauzer rescue and I have 9 dogs in my house at present and they are small dogs. I have no room, but I want Gus to have a chance. Poor Gus is to be euthanized in 24 to 48 hrs. It's not fair he has to die due to human stupidity. Can you help please? I hope to hear back from you soon. Time is of the essence. Thank you for hearing me out and contact me either
