Pasadena, CA: Pit Bull Pup Needs to Get Out

Look at this gorgeous little girl! Emma (A268441) is here at the Pasadena Humane Society and needs your help to find a special forever home. She is deaf and needs a little extra help to get into a loving home. Emma is such a happy girl despite her disability. She loves nothing more than to be petted and cuddled and to lie in the sunshine.

She is a very petite dog and is only 10 months old. She has the cutest freckly nose and a very calm nature. She is good with other dogs, a little unsure because she can’t hear, but playful and happy. Other than her hearing problems she is healthy and copes very well with being in the shelter.

She is a really sweet girl and we would love you to help us find her a forever home. If you can adopt her or rescue her please contact the Pasadena Humane Society and quote her ID number, A268441. We can be contacted by phone at 626-792-7151 ext. 116 for Lorna, ext. 121 for Kevin, ext. 117 for Ute or ext. 128 for Stephanie, or by email at rescue@phsspca.org, kevin@phsspca.org or ute@phsspca.org.Thank you!

Subject: Re: No Subject
I had one taken. I have to find him something real fast. I don't want him to end up where his owners were headed, animal control. My landlord said I have till Sunday. He is good with hand signs, because of his being deaf. He is about 4-5. He was infested with tics and has had flea and tic dips. I can't do much more I wish I could because he is a great dog but too large for my landlord to allow. He love dogs, cats and especially kids. He is good off a leash and completely house broken. He is fixed. Anything you can do is great. I am running out of time.

Pros and Cons of Natural Cat Litter

While this does not relate to deaf animals, I feel this is important to share as it concerns the health of animals and humans as well as the environment. There's a wonderful vlog for American Sign Language (ASL) users by Raychelle. The English version you will see on the link below is an addition to the ASL vlog. She discusses about the pros and cons of the four natural cat litter: Feline Pine, Swheat Scoop, Yesterday's News and World's Best Cat Litter. I hope that by watching the vlog, this motivates the non ASL users to learn the beautiful language in its own right.

I am a frequent visitor of www.ecodeaf.org and encourage you to check the site out. It's a wonderful place to learn how to be eco conscious and friendly.

Vicksburg, MS: Deaf Pit Bull Needs a Placement

UPDATE: A crossposter got the location wrong so it's in Lapeer, MI.

I'm writing about a very special dog who needs a loving family. Recently a good friend's daughter's friend was killed by a drunk driver and left behind a one year old pit bull named Casper. No one from this girl's family was willing to take Casper in so my friend brought him home until a suitable place could be found. Added to the difficulty of placing this breed is the fact that Casper is an albino and is deaf. There are a whole new set of considerations because of his disability. I know many people would never consider a pit bull for a pet and I understand their concerns. Casper is a very sweet and loving boy who thinks he's a lap dog. He's had all his shots and is neutered.

Casper responds to certain hand signals and wants very much to please. He really needs a safe place and someone to continue working with him in a loving way. If anyone is interested or has any idea about a safe place for Casper to live I'd very much appreciate hearing from you.

Living Proof of Boo's Rehabilitation

Boo is a 2 year old Bull Terrier, and is completely deaf. Boo was surrendered to us by her breeder in October of 2008 at the age of 6 months. By then she had been placed in 5 or 6 homes before we took her. She had been repeatedly returned to her breeder because she was out of control and no one knew how to handle her, which was only compounded by her deafness. When we were able to take possession of her, her health was quickly declining due to neglect. She had a severe case of kennel cough which was going into pneumonia, severe digestive issues, and her legs and tail were covered with ring worm. She also had cuts on her face from the breeders' other dogs constantly attacking her. It took over three months of intensive veterinary treatment just to get her well enough to safely be spayed. Mentally she was also a wreck. Boo had one of the worst cases of separation anxiety that we have ever seen, causing her to panic if someone was not in her direct line of vision at all times. She had no structure at all in her life up to that point, and had no idea how to take direction from a person. She had lived her first 6 months in some very tense environments. It took weeks before we were even able to see her just relax. Boo has now made a complete turn around, both physically and mentally. She is now one of the most balanced dogs either of us have ever been around, and is the best dog for us to use in rehabilitating other problem dogs. The fact that she is deaf has made her into one of the best teachers for people that don't understand what internal energy is or how it is used.

Boo has become the poster child for why dogs with seemingly impossible to overcome problems should not be euthanized, as there is always hope.

Manhattan, NY: Deaf Pit Bull in Kill Shelter

843438 -- BAMBAM, Neutered, 9months, Deaf (owner surrendered "No Time").

A VOLUNTEER WROTE: Bambam is such a great dog even with his disability this boy already knows to sit - play ball and walks beautifully. He is white all over with these unusual large coin circles of the faintest of gray on his back under his white hair and you have to get close up to see this; beautiful face and expressive eyes. He loves to be with company and actually would entertain himself once his human companion is around. Didn't seem to mind other dogs, just kept wagging his tail and he would definitely be suitable for an apartment. He weighs 48.90lbs -- In & Out: 4/15 and is rated Mild. Beautiful dog.

Another volunteer wrote:
I can not get his soulful eyes , his sweet face out of my mind.
How he just sat there patiently waiting for his turn to go out, just following me with his eyes not making a sound. Please, the shelter is no place for a delicate soul like Bam Bam. We need your help, come look at him take him out for a stroll, you will never put him back in his shelter kennel.

A Volunteer Wrote: Bam Bam has already made himself so popular at the shelter that volunteers are scrambling to walk him, write his bio, and otherwise champion him. It's not hard to root for this beautiful boy: He is an all white stunning dog, and at 9 months is so ahead of the curve he already knows how to sit, walk beautifully, and play ball. He's so seductive that one volunteer actually talks about melting into his eyes...and she's not wrong. What's most extraordinary about Bam Bam is that like many pit bulls who are all white, he is deaf. And like all the deaf, white pits that we have met, he rises above the bar in every other way to make up for his lack of hearing. He is alert, he is attentive, and he is lovely with people, affectionate and sweet and willing to please and obey any command that is given visually.

Birmingham, AL: Deaf Great Dane Needs Foster

I am desperately seeking a knowledgable foster for this young deaf great dane. I have a potential dane owner who runs a doggy daycare here in Birmingham, who is thinking of fostering but nothing certain and I hate for too much time to pass. The shelter will work with me and they are open 7 days a week too which is great since I have a career on top of my own rescue and work Mon-Fri 7am-6pm.

Savannah is a beauty. I spoke to the shelter rescue coordinator and she gave me some insight on her.

- owner surrender (owner said that he had landlord problems)
- she is good tempered and seems to be irritated with the shelter life
- she was not to fond of other dogs coming up behind her while she was eating but is fine with the dogs when no food is around. There was no full out attack-aggression but just a snarl and warning.
- she is 12-14 mos old
- if you are able to foster or know of someone, she will come FULLY vetted to you

If you or someone you know might can foster her for Peace Love & Dog Paws Rescue, Inc. we would be able to save her life!!! I can't turn my back on her and must help her. She needs someone who understands her but also understands that she is a young playful pup and with the right training (hand signals, etc) she will be a wonderful companion. The staff at the shelter is not sure if she knows any signs because they do not know any. Thank you very much!!

Fredericksburg, VA: Deaf and Blind Cat Needs Help!

Before you read about this deaf and blind cat, a deaf blind cat can lead a normal and wonderful life like any other cats. Here's the link with video that was posted here some time ago of a deaf blind cat with a hearing blind cat:

http://deafanimals.blogspot.com/2008/03/deaf-blind-cat-and-blind-cat-having_31.html

A neutered long-haired (matted) white male cat (name Tuffy) came into the Spotsylvania County Animal Control Shelter yesterday by his owner. He is deaf, blind and extremely matted. His control # is 1253. If there is anyone that can help get this guy out of jail, please contact the shelter directly.

Super friendly. I do not have any additional information other than the fact that he is not in the main cat room where visitors would see him. He is in the back in observation because he is matted, deaf and blind. The shelter does not consider that very adoptable qualities. Poor Tuffy does not stand a chance in this place where they have a hard time getting the cute, fluffy and perfect cats adopted. Someone needs to rescue him as we never know when his time will be up.

Kansas City, MO: Deaf Boxer Needs OUT

CASPER, a DEAF, HW+ male boxer, only has until Mon 4/12!!

http://www.dogsindanger.com/dog.jsp?did=1270571398190

About casper: Casper appears to be deaf. He also tested positive to heartworm disease. Even if you cant adopt him, you can still save his life by donating for his treatment. If you can help, please contact Judy at (816) 921-0201 (press 0 at the recording) . Casper is a mellow and friendly boy. He is very thin right now and out of shape. We think he will be a real casanova when back on his feet. He seems to be doing well with children. Might not be the best choice for a home with another large dominant male.

We do not know an exact euthanasia date for this dog but it is posted here because IT IS URGENT and its time is quickly running out.

We have many more dogs for adoption at the shelter and new dogs arrive on a daily basis. Not all dogs are featured on DogsInDanger. To meet your new best friend, please visit us soon. We are open Monday through Saturday from Noon to 4pm. We are open until 7pm on Thursdays and are closed on Sundays.

Washington, DC: Deaf Kitten

Skittles was brought into the Homeward Trails Animal Rescue program over the weekend. He is a delightful boy who LOVES to play and interact with other animals. He is super friendly with people and will just cuddle in your arms and purr away when you hold him. He is just about perfect in every way.

We believe that Skittles is deaf. He is a little skittish at times and we do think he would do best in an adult home or a home with older children. He definitely needs to be in a home with other animals as he really enjoys engaging with cats and dogs.

Skittles is scheduled to be neuter early next week. He is current on his vaccines and tested FIV& FeLV negative. His adoption fee is $100.00. We think he is about 6 months old. Please contact Nancy Lumb at thebubies@mac.com or nancy.lumb@intelsat.com for further information.

East Amherst, NY: English Setter Has Until 4/8

This is an urgent message from Black Dogs, Second Chance rescue!

There is a friendly English Setter female that was found as a stray in rural Western NY. She is at a dog warden facility for a 5 day hold. She is wearing a tag, but most of the information on it is scratched off, except for the word "DEAF".

Her stray hold is up, and she either needs a rescue to pull her or to be claimed by her owners. Please crosspost far and wide. We are hoping someone can save her (our rescue does not have the room/foster space, or we would rush right down there and save her ourselves). We do not want her to die. If you know someone who can save her, please email us ASAP. Time is of the essence, she needs a commitment by this Thursday!!

Deaf Great Dane Puppy Needs Donation

From reading the information about Bella, it seems Bella has gone through a lot for a puppy. A lot of money has been spent on her for different health problems. The latest has been parvo and it's a serious illness. To learn more about parvo, go to:

Veterinary Q & A: Parvovirus Infection in Dogs

Bella is with
Patti Mauldin at Valhalla Rescue. The rescue that pulled Bella from a kill shelter and Bella was fortunate to be given a chance. She needs to be fully recovered before she is up for foster then adoption.

You have the choice of making a donation through chipin that's available on the link or mail a check directly to the VCA Animal Hospital on behalf of Bella. Make sure to put Bella's name for the Vet Office to know who the money is intended for. Go to their website: http://www.vcahospitals.com/pacific-avenue-south and look for the address where to mail a check.

With the economy not being in its best shape, donate what you can and/or spread the word. If we could get 1,200 people to donate one dollar and the goal would have been accomplished and still be able to help other animals in need.

All the updates and pictures along with chipin can be found on this link:

Libson, OH: Euthansia for Boxer on 4/7

http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16072845?recno=8

This is "BUD" (1 yr and 45 lbs, avail 04/01). He was found wandering on McSwiggen Rd. Bud is very friendly and loving and other than being borderline emaciated he appears to be in good health. We believe that Bud may be deaf or partially deaf. He is very friendly but will require someone with a firm but gentle hand. Due to his hearing loss it will infact be a challange to train Bud. He was not wearing a collar/id and no one has called to report him lost/missing. He has been give a parvo/distemper (7-way) vaccine and has been wormed for 3 days with panacur.

He is scheduled to be euthanized on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7TH.

Georgetown, DE: Am Staff Mix Puppy in Shelter

PLEASE CROSS POST WIDELY

Gracie is a sweet six-month-old white Am Staff mix puppy (DOB 10/4/09) who originally ended up at the SPCA in Georgetown, DE when she was a tiny pup. She came in with a torn ear and was obviously deaf. All white, with gorgeous light colored eyes and a brown nose, she is a cutie. Shortly after arriving, Gracie went into a foster home and was reportedly doing so well, her foster Mom decided to adopt her. Well now, after four months, Gracie is back at the shelter and it appears that she received no training in the interim. She is a very affectionate dog but still very much a puppy with all the behavior that comes with that. Deaf dogs can be trained but they don't learn by osmosis. Poor Gracie deserved a home where someone would take the time and effort to train her but it didn't work out that way. Now she desperately needs someone who is willing to work with her, ideally someone with deaf dog experience.

If you can help Gracie, please call Lisa at the SPCA, 302-856-6361 or email her at
lisa@delspca.org. Gracie is a very sweet girl but she needs to be out of the shelter and into a loving home where she can be properly trained as soon as possible.

On behalf of Gracie, thank you for considering helping Gracie or forwarding this on to someone who might be able to.

Manahawkin, NJ: Abused Deaf Dog Needs Help!

I am a volunteer at the Southern Ocean County Animal Facilty in Manahawkin, NJ. We recently were brought a dog whose body is full of scars, and who has been determined to be deaf. The shelter staff suggested that the dog may have been used as a "bait dog" for a dog fighting ring. He was clearly abused regardless, and it is very sad.

I read the dog's cage card today, and it appears they've listed him as a bulldog mix. This little guy has been temperament tested, and failed. No doubt it is due to the abuse he must have endured.

Please, if you are a rescue (or know of one which can help) and have any interest in this poor abused and deaf angel, contact the shelter and inquire about him while I try to gather more information. I would be willing to personally assist in transporting this dog someone can help him (some locations may be far, but see what can be worked out - where there's a will there's a way). He's the victim and doesn't deserve death after all he's been through.

Key notes: CHAMP IS DEAF. He is also scarred all over his body, and the staff believes he may have been used as a "bait dog" in a dog fighting ring. He did not pass his temperment test, no doubt due to his abuse and his deafness :( ...so now the staff does not feel comfortable letting the volunteers walk him. He sure has had a tough and unfair life.

Champ has been walked by volunteers prior to his test, and had never shown the walkers any gruff or negativity, just sad puppy dog eyes. We, with the staff, changed his bedding yesterday afternoon (post-temperament test) and Champ came out of his kennel calmly and sadly blinked at us as we made up his new bed. Since he couldn't hear us coming we had to get his attention by gaining his sight. It is heartbreaking. He just needs some love and kindness and help.

He is faced with imminent euthanasia if no alternative is found, and I truly do not know how much time he has before that action is exercised. Please contact the shelter for expedited action immediately if your organization can help him. Please :(

(Trish is the facility manager and a truly great lady)

I have attached a photo of CHAMP, he needs help, not euthanasia. Unfortunately as this is a county facility, Champ needs the help of a rescue like yours to save him from euthanasia now. I'm desperate to save this poor little boy.

Justin, TX: Catahoula Pup from Shelter

Align Center
Jill
Catahoula - Blue Merle

Female
12 Weeks Old

I could go on and on about how awesome Jill is but let me give you the summary. She was born deaf and with only one eye. She was dumped by the breeder, that's how she came to us. We are looking for a rescue or adopter that has experience with deaf or visually impaired dogs. Jill is unbelievably smart. At 12 weeks she is sitting, kennel training, leash training, and she learns more everyday. She is very loyal and gets attached quickly. She follows me around 24/7 and never takes her eye off of me. She loves her stuffed toys and will bring them back and fetch them for hours if possible. She loves other dogs and looks to them for guidance, she mimics them and does what they do. She is truly a diamond in the rough! Please pass the word about this deaf visually impaired girl, her "special needs" do not keep her from being a normal puppy but her training and needs will be different than a regular dog. I have taken her home with me to get her out of the shelter until we can find her a home or rescue. I have pics I can send anyone interested.
