Checotah, OK: Bull Terrier Mix at Shelter

Transportation can be arranged by contacting Vicki McKay at gypsies@windstream.net. Any interest for Marilyn, contact Bernita at birittenhouse@yahoo.com by email or 806-339-1362
by phone.

12-21-10

Hello, I am a volunteer at the Checotah Animal Shelter. Kate said that you might be able to find my Marilyn Monroe a good home. She is a year old deaf pit bull, pure white with a brown spot on her lower back. She is very beautiful! I found her on the streets of Checotah and loaded her up in my vehicle. I fell completely in love. I ordered her a medical tag just in case she got lost. Marilyn is very friendly to all dogs and people. I have been working with her on weekends teaching her sign language. She knows three commands (sit, good girl, stay). She loves to play with the ball and has a great disposition about her. I would love to adopt her but I have no yard and have three dogs which are all potty trained and rescue dogs. I rent my home and not supposed to have any dogs. She deserves a big yard to play in. I am so attached to her and love her so much that as I write this email, I have to wipe my tears but I want her to be so so happy with an adopted family.

Thank you,
Bernita Rittenhouse

Irving, TX: Outdoor Cat Needs a Home

Mr. White - who when the cat first showed up in my neighborhood I named Snow White thinking it was a female. Very people friendly, I was able to pick up and pet. Was busy for a few days and then when I took Mr. White to the vet to get fixed I realized he was a male, hence dropping the Snow part of his name. I have a colony of 12 use-to-be ferals (a few still kinda keep their distance) all fixed and we have a lovely community till Mr. White came along. He doesn't geehaw well with the others. He has also taken to harrassing the cat across the street too, all in a bid for food, which there is plenty of for all .
I found out from my neighbor across the street that Mr. White is stone deaf, he does NOT have blue eyes, hence maybe some of his acting out. I use the Animal Wellness collection of flower essences on all my cats - him included to keep behavior calm and peaceful among the pack. Tho Mr. White is not to hep on taking the drops from me. I feel like he used to be an indoor cat and is very used to and friendly with people, and someone dumped him in the neighborhood. I would love to see him go to someone who wants a single white beautiful cat in their home or out on a farm where he can roam freely and not feel he is in competition with other cats for food. As I said earlier he is fixed and had a rabies shot and flee treatment - the basics that the Feral Friends vets do. Have no idea how old he is - maybe around 3 or 4 years old.

cell # 214-802-1134
THANKS - Elaine ~ Irving, Texas
PS - I would be willing to meet someone part way with him to transport him say within a 100 mile radius of the Dallas area, which would have to be on a weekend.

Alvarado, TX: Abandoned 3rd time and Needs a Safe Place

3rd time in a year!

Sunday we found out that the neighbors in back of us had moved. They had a beautiful white dog that they kept chained to a telephone pole with a dog house. No shade at all. I guess they thought he would get into the dog house to get out of the sun (and COOK). When I investigated more closely, I found that he had no food, no water. What were they thinking: when he got hungry, he'd just go somewhere and someone would pick him up and feed him? Or shoot him? Or get run over? Sometimes I just hate people! God forgive me!

It's just unbelievable. He was really hungry. We moved his chain and dog house under the carport so he can have shelter. We're feeding him and making sure he has water at least twice a day. We let him off the chain to run. But we're not comfortable leaving him off for his own safety. He isn't very old - maybe a year. He has the most wonderful personality, smiles all the time. Happy, runs around barking. Comes and sits in front of you. Loves everybody. Starved for attention. Is not food aggressive. Loves to be brushed and petted. He doesn't know what to do with treats - buries them, I guess for his next meal.

A family moved in summertime in July and wanted to keep him. I don't know when they moved, but they're gone and he's still there. We are feeding him and caring for him. He has shelter - carport and 2 dog houses - is still on his steel cable, but we have no other way to contain him.

We obviously need help. Actually I think he may be house trained. The trailer was open yesterday and I went in looking for some clue of the owner. He came in with me and went over in the corner and laid down. He's very docile.

Please contact me at this number: 817 659 9275.

Thank you,
Cathie

Tampa, FL: Cat Wants an Indoor Home

Looking through window from outside

Muddy, a young white deaf kitty, was abandoned in a neighborhood and a lady is currently taking care of him. She has a big dog and cannot bring the cat inside. The cat is deaf and had been declawed and living outside. The woman taking care of him took him to the vet to have him scanned for chip - no chip - and he was tested/vaccinated at the same time. He is a neutered young male, about a year and a half old. Muddy really wants to get inside and be an inside cat.

If anyone is interested in fostering or can give him a home, please contact Olya Grove at
olyagrove@gmail.com.

Ravenna, OH: Akita Mix Needs Help Now

URGENT!!!!!!!!!!Very nice girl. She only has one eye. Seems to be deaf. She needs a nice place to retire and live out her golden years.

Update 12/11/2010. I really need to find a home - real or foster - very soon. The Dog Pound staff and volunteers treat me real well, but I've been here far too long. I do have some special needs, like I really want to stick with you when I'm outside because I have trouble seeing and a little trouble hearing these days. I love to be groomed and petted. I walk great on a leash - I just want to stick with you. I am an easy going dog who wants to make you my companion. I promise if you invite me into your family, I will be loyal and provide you with dedicated companionship. Please stop by and take me for a walk. I know you'll enjoy my company. I really need to find a good home before Christmas. My volunteers even gave me a name but you sure can change it once I'm a member of your family. I'm Millie for now. You will know my gentle soul when you give me a treat and have to set it on the floor before I will take it. See you soon!

Adopt - Never Buy.

"If you buy a dog, what will you do with the shelter dog you kill?" This is the question that PETA poses in its newest ad, "Everyday Dogs." The haunting video portrays dogs engaged in everyday activities with humans -- except all of these pups are in body bags. There is absolutely nothing 'tasteful' about the euthanasia of millions of dogs in animal shelters every year simply because people who could have opened their homes to a shelter dog purchased a dog from a breeder or pet store instead."

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), nearly half of the dogs that are sent to shelters are killed because nobody will adopt them. Seven out of ten cats are killed. PETA estimates that up to 4 million animals are euthanized in shelters each year.

Some pet owners argue that they are looking for a specific animal breed that is hard to find through adoption. Beyond adopting, you can prevent the cycle of strays by spaying and neutering your own pets.

The ASPCA website provides more information on pet adoption. You can also check out PetFinder.com to not only find an adorably adoptable pet, but also procrastinate for hours cooing over these cuddly creatures!

Tampa Bay, FL: Lab/Bulldog Mix Needs Rescue by Friday!

I was notified that there is a one year old lab/bulldog mix left behind in the apartment for the roommate to take after by someone who moved out of state. This person have liver problem and cannot walk the dog. She has a friend, who is staying until this Friday before she flies out of country where her home is, help walk the dog.

However, after this Friday, she cannot take care of this dog and needs to look after her own health. Bud doesn't belong to her. The dog weighs about 70 lbs. According to the people where the dog is currently, the dog is friendly and sweet. The only issue is he pulls when on the leash and it's hard to control him. He has a lot of energy where he's not able to steam off and wants to play.

This dog is only 1 year old and I was told he have been to 4 different homes already. I strongly feel he needs to go to a good rescue with a foster home who can work with him and assess him before knowing which home is good/right for him to ensure it's his 5th and last home. Don't let him go to a shelter or be given to just anyone to adopt for the 5th time only to be given up again and again and again.

Please email deafanimals@gmail.com if a reputable rescue can help.

Las Vegas, NV: Pit Bull Mix Needs a Home

Breed: Pit Bull mix
Location: Las Vegas
Sex: Female
Age: 7 years

Description: My name is PeeWee and I am looking for my forever home. I am absolutely the sweetest thing ever, so I've been told. I love to be with people ALL THE TIME, in fact my foster mom has been working with me alot on what she calls an "issue" when I'm left alone, not sure what that means, you'll have to ask her about it, then let me know. All I know is I love everything.. dogs, kids, & I'm even good with cats, I just let them tell me what do to, I truly am just a big cuddle-bug and very gentle. I do ask for a little bit more of understanding & patience than most since I am deaf, but if you give me that extra TLC I promise to give back even more! I am current on all my shots and I'm also spayed, so I'm ready to go! My foster mom who has shown me so much love, has promised me that I will only go to a perfect forever home. So if you are interested in being that one, please contact her so that our lives together can begin.

Jacksonville, FL: Pit Bull Lost Since 11/26/10. Help!

It has been a week now that Petey, a deaf pit bull, has been missing. He was adopted from the Animal Control last summer when his time was up. Please crosspost far and wide non stop until Petey is found safely. For information about Petey, check the link on craiglist:

I made my great escape last Friday (Nov 26) at around 3pm. I think it's around this time I made my great escape because a former human roommate left in a huff, when he was supposed to be watching me. My owners are hoping I just made my escape and still am in Florida. I am a handsome boy at one year old and I am playful. I'm very friendly with humans, never have bitten any, but I may be a little rough on other dogs. This is also something I don't like to tell people, but I have this nervous chewing habit when I'm left alone by myself. I have eaten my owner's expensive camera, blinds, bed, sheets, you name it! Whatever you do, don't leave me alone in a room. I will get into trouble for sure! I also happen to be deaf. I can hear only extremely loud noise but I won't know which direction it comes from.

I've escaped once before, and I was found by Orange Park High School, and taken to Clay County Animal Protection Services in Green Cove Springs. My owner had to spring me out and pay a fine because I didn't wear a tag. I have had all my vaccinations, rabies and all.

Again, my stats are:

Neutered, male, white with spots on my fine coat - I have a spot on one of my eyes, just like the dog in the old tv show Little Rascals. I was wearing a reflective collar, black and gray (the reflective part is gray). My owner was stupid enough to postpone getting me my tag and see what happens! However I do have a microchip, so shelters can scan it for identification purposes... if they do it at all when they are not too overwhelmed with the volume of dogs like me getting in all the time.

I think I am done with my grand adventure and I am ready to go home to my owners. I don't know why, but they love me with all their hearts and I'm sure they are very sad about me being gone. Please help me get back home where I belong!
