Deaf Cat in PA Seeks a Home

Fifi

Fifi of Philadelphia is a small female long haired calico, who was found on the street. The neighbors where she was found said that for at least 3 winters and possibly longer she had been on their block, living under cars. Different people on the block would feed her at different times. Fifi is a very sweet little one who loves to lay on your lap and be petted. She is quiet and seeks a warm soft spot to nap. She does not hear, but when you open a can of cat food she will appear right by your side. Fifi needs a home where she can be petted and find a warm soft spot on the bed near you at night. She is spayed, up to date on all of her shots and free of FIV/FeLV and any other problems. Please contact samde12@aol.com to inquire about Fifi.

72 Hours Before Gassing in OH

Whisper

Whisper came to us as a stray along with her buddy, a Basset Hound. Whisper has the most beautiful blue eyes and is very laid back and mellow. Whisper is a special needs puppy in that she is deaf. Her buddy, the Basset has always been her ears, but unfortunately the Basset has been adopted and she is left to rely on others for her hearing. Please note, Whisper is in a kill shelter and dogs only have to be held for 72 hours due to limited space. Our adoption fee is a mere $32.00 ($20.00 for adoption and $12.00 for a license). What a small price to pay for adding such a great puppy to your family. Won't you give us a call to meet this great little puppy?

I'm a volunteer at the Highland County Dog Pound in Hillsboro, Ohio. There is a young dog (maybe 6-9 months?) that came into the pound as a stray and we are 99.9 % sure it's deaf.

Three volunteers took it outside today and tested its hearing. It only responded to motion. I will attach pictures. The petfinder posting will not be up until later tonight or in the morning. Most dogs only have 72 hours so please let us know as soon as possible if you can help. Thanks!

My owner moved and couldn't take me. I AM DEAF so I will need an owner who has patience and lots of dog experience. Please meet with me! Adopted but returned because she plays "too rough" with the cats. She will pick them up and carry them around. never hurt them purposely but had potential to hurt accidentally.

Two Deaf Boxers in IN Have to Get Out!

Casper

Casper is around 3 years old (shelter believes he is DEAF). He is not housebroken or neutered. He has been heartworm tested and it was negative. He lived with 2 kids, ages 5 months and 21 months. He was playful with the kids and seems fine with other dogs (he’s still in isolation so he hasn’t been socializing with the other dogs yet.) The owner found him as a stray. Had him only for 3 weeks, and had to surrender him because he couldn't afford him. Casper was kept in a crate and also outside on a lead.

Our Animal Control Officer (ACO) was called to check on
Casper and found him so underweight and in bad shape that the ACO told the owner he could surrender him to the Animal Shelter, or he would be facing a series of citations. Casper was signed over 5/30/09. (You can see the fly bites on his ears that we’ve been doctoring. When he first arrived, every time he shook his head blood splattered all over the walls from the sores on his ears.)

Sugar

Sugar is a white female boxer (shelter thinks she is DEAF) that is approximately 8-9 months old. Her owners surrendered Sugar after having her for one week because they said she was too rowdy for the small dog they already owned. Sugar has been heartworm tested and it was negative. She has not been spayed. Sugar seems to be a very friendly dog and of course has the energy of any normal puppy.

I talked w/ a board member of Montgomery Co. (Indiana) Animal Welfare league...they have 2 WHITE DEAF (shelter believes they're deaf) BOXERS at their shelter.

One of the boxers is being kept in OUTSIDE kennel - there were tonadoes there friday night. I did talk with them re: brachiocephalic breeds & HEAT. This shelter has limited space and currently overwhelmed w/ animals. We, Central Indiana Boxer Rescue, are FULL-no available foster space & dogs waiting to come in :( I personally cannot "squeeze" them into my house either.

Anyone interested, but unsure about life with a deaf dog, let me know---I can let you know all about the joys of living with them & debunk the myths associated with them as well.

Transport can be coordinated. If foster or adopt happens in Indiana, I'll assist with training and provide guidance.

THANK YOU!

Deaf Dalmatian in CA

Gertrude

I have a dog here named Gertrude that I'm going to beg for your help with. She a dalamatian and is approx. 7 years old. She is deaf. I have been working with Dalmatian rescue to get her out of here but a few have said no due to her age and the other one has no room at this time. She wasn't spayed before she came her so we spayed her here and we also removed some mammory tumors. We biopsied the tumors and the came back benign. I'm really worried about her because she has be declining behavioral ever since her surgery. She needs to go into a dalmatian saavy home because she can be snappy sometimes. But she wasn't really like that before her surgery so I think it might be due to her surgery or her length of stay here. I'm really getting desperate because I think she truly deserves a second chance in a home that can give her the time to come around and are very dalmatian smart. Please let me know if you are interested.

Thanks, Carli

San Antonio, TX: Border Collie Mix Pup Needs Help

Good morning,

I am trying SO hard to find a new home for the little doggie we adopted from craigslist in April. If I don't find him a new home or temporary new home this week, I'm going to have no choice but to take him to a shelter. He is a husky mix with we think border collie. About eight months old, all shots, neutered, chipped, deaf, very active dog. We had no idea he was deaf when we adopted him and truthfully that doesn't bother us.
What does bother us is how aggressive he is to our other dogs, primarily the male. I think he is just playing but WAY too rough, he hurts them. He needs a yard with a fence and no other large dogs. He MUST have a new home because we can't keep him. Please let me know if you need any other information. We are located in the Hill Country, near San Antonio, Texas. Thanks.

Pit Bull Mix in PA Needs a Home

Dessy

Dessy is a sweet, special needs girl that is looking for a permanent home. Dessy came into the ACCT shelter as a stray on March 10, where she was quickly put into foster care. Dessy is looking for a home that understands the needs of deaf dogs and can help her flourish. She is good with other dogs and is not very interested in the cat she is currently living with. She is about 1-2 years old and is crate trained and is well on her way to understanding house breaking. She is a high energy girl that loves walks and lots of play time. Dessy is great in the car and enjoys sticking her head out the window. She is a great snuggler and can easily entertain herself with toys. Dessy is already spayed and microchipped and is ready to be adopted into a wonderful, understanding home. If you would like more information on how to adopt Dessy, please email her foster care provider at: paws@bust.com

Indy Deaf PitBull Seeks Help!

This is a plea for help from Indiana. If you folks have a solution, could you please get in touch with Monica at toomanykitties7@yahoo.com.
Monica, please keep me informed. If no one comes forward within the next day, I can probably kennel him up here. Wouldn't be as good as with a family, but this going to a "free home" ad is absolutely insane.
I'll try to send his picture to some pit rescues I know that are very, very good.
Keep me informed.Thank you.

Deaf Aussie Pup in Need of Safety in NC

Casper

I volunteer with the local kill shelter. I have talked a nearby rescue (Logan's Run) into helping with vetting this poor pup IF I can find him a rescue or foster home. So far, no help. Please let me know if you can help or can pass this info along. We know what happens to the deaf and blind.

Casper was purchased from a breeder. The breeder was going to euthanize the pup ONLY because he is deaf, that is his only crime. He is 4 months old. We are taking him to the vet this week to see if he is truly deaf and to what extent the deafness is. He will be fully vetted appropriate for his age. We are located in Murphy, NC, and can help with transport.

PLEASE help with Casper.
