Catahoula Rescue is trying to find a home for Ray and Dizzy, beautiful Catahoulas, before they are taken to the shelter.

Ray is 1-1/2 yrs old, neutered, 90 lbs, up to date on shots (03-10), house/crate trained. Good with kids, dogs & cats (chases them to play), inside dog. He rides o.k. in the car. Ray has Partial vision in one eye and partial hearing. He is a happy and playful boy. Dizzy is 2 yrs old, spayed, 70lbs, up to date on shots (03-10), house/crate trained. Good with kids, dogs & cats, inside dog. She rides great in the car, very laid back and loving, she is deaf & blind.

The owner is getting divorced, moving and can not take Ray and Dizzy with her, she said she bought them both from the same breeder in FL (2 seperate litters) but couldn't find the name. My name is Chester and I am a big friendly, loving, Catahoula. I am about 9 months old and very much a puppy. I am at a foster home, my temporary mom, Gail, would love to keep me, but it is a very small house and she already has 4 big dogs. I get along great with other dogs, I am neutered and up to date on my shots. I am deaf however we all get along just fine. My deafness is not a problem for any of us! I am looking for a forever home with someone who has a lot of time available to train a big ol puppy. I have so much energy to burn! But timeouts in my crate are very acceptable. What a Hurdle of Obstacle for Daisy!

One day when we were buying food for our other dog Olivia, we found Daisy's picture. Daisy was born blind and deaf and was passed through three homes before finding us. She was only 3 months old and scared. She bonded instantly with Olivia but refused to bond with us. Daisy was up all hours of the night pacing and barking, which we later learned was normal for blind and deaf dogs. Within 48 hrs we knew we needed to call a trainer. Fortunately one was willing to volunteer his services.

The first step was for us to understand Daisy’s need for a strict schedule; this would be her life force. And next was for Daisy to accept our touch. It took eight months for Daisy to bond with us, working with her day and night. In one sense the job was simple, hold Daisy until she succumbed to us, or fell asleep, but not for Daisy. We spent the first three months with many bites and scratches; we didn’t have the typical dog with the wagging tail running to greet us. I spent many nights in tears feeling as if somehow I was failing as a pet parent. As much as Daisy’s rejection stung, it was also a constant reminder that this was not about me, this was about Daisy’s growth and trust in us and I was not about to give up trying.

I will never forget the first break through when she no longer fought me but rather collapsed and fell asleep in my arms, this time I cried happy tears, the bond was made and would only grow stronger from here. Since then Daisy has learned how to climb stairs, visit new locations and even learn how to swim! And even though we always find ourselves asking, what about Daisy? Daisy’s strength, joy for life and perseverance is something I would never trade for the world.

Justin, TX: Catahoula Pup from Shelter

I could go on and on about how awesome Jill is but let me give you the summary. She was born deaf and with only one eye. She was dumped by the breeder, that's how she came to us. We are looking for a rescue or adopter that has experience with deaf or visually impaired dogs. Jill is unbelievably smart. At 12 weeks she is sitting, kennel training, leash training, and she learns more everyday. She is very loyal and gets attached quickly. She follows me around 24/7 and never takes her eye off of me. She loves her stuffed toys and will bring them back and fetch them for hours if possible. She loves other dogs and looks to them for guidance, she mimics them and does what they do. She is truly a diamond in the rough! Please pass the word about this deaf visually impaired girl, her "special needs" do not keep her from being a normal puppy but her training and needs will be different than a regular dog. I have taken her home with me to get her out of the shelter until we can find her a home or rescue. I have pics I can send anyone interested.

Deaf Catahoula in LA to be Euthanized This Friday!

If anyone is interested or knows of anyone who is interested in this dog please let me know ASAP. She will more than likely be euthanized on Friday if she doesn't get a home. Her name is "Bean" and she weighs about 45 lbs. She is a catahoula mix with blue eyes and deaf. She is a sweetheart. She is spayed, heartworm negative, has all her vaccines. She is housebroken and kennel trained. She is very lovable and sweet. I think she is in Baton Rouge, but I'm not 100% positive.

Deaf Catahoula Mix in SC

Hey Guys, please take a look at Dixie, a deaf catahoula mix who was rescued from the shelter after her rescuer learned that animal control had been called to pick her up! Dixie is about 3 yrs old, very sweet and happy. She likes children but would need some training because she gets so excited she may knock them down. These pics do not do her justice! Dixie has a beautiful coat and beautiful blue eyes. She will need someone who is willing to work with her due to her being deaf. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, spayed, and ready for adoption!
