Meet Jessie!  She is a beautiful deaf yellow Labrador Retriever whose owners moved and could not take her with them.  Jessie is five years old and is such a gentle, good-natured soul.  Jessie has wonderful manners, walks well on a leash, enjoys playtime in the yard and is very affectionate.  She has one of those wonderfully expressive doggy faces that looks like she is smiling at you.  Jessie is spayed, heartworm negative and current on her distemper/parvo and kennel cough vaccinations.  Prior to leaving Animal Control, Jessie will be microchipped and given a rabies vaccination.  PULL FEE PAID!

Washington, NC: Boxer in Gassing Shelter

Deaf female boxer in GASSING will be killed MONDAY
Anyone who can help this dog, email Crystal at boxerluver4ever@gmail.com and she will get you in touch with the shelter.
Well, bad news!!!  & just like we thought unfortunately! Ghost was brought back to the GASSING shelter!!! (24 hrs later!) Not her fault AGAIN!!
Here's what IBCR's Mary & Denyce had to say: "Ghost is back at the shelter. Nothing she did...the woman who adopted claims her husband did not want her and her Boston Terrier did not like her. Hope we can get Ghost out of there. The place/shelter is on overload and Monday 1/31 looks like it will be a really bad day for all."
Here's what's known:
Female, spayed
    4 years old, deaf,
    Housetrained / Crate trained
    Good with other dogs
    Good with older children -
    Playful and friendly
May be a little 'mouthy' when playing but never bit/nipped
Responds to simple hand motions but not actually 'trained to hand
signals'
The most recent owner only had her for about a year, never took her to a vet. Gave his own "7in1" vaccinations from Tractor Supply. Rabies is out of date. Reason for surrender - he is currentlyworking 14 hr days and no one else at home to care for the dogs. Also turned in a hound/shepherd mix, 3 yrs old, female.

Hempstead, NY: Pit Bull in Shelter and Needs Rescue

If you know of anyone you can contact Denise ASAP (dabandolo@aol.com) dabandolo@aol.com

Guys, do you know anyone that can foster/adopt/intake Cruiser? He is a super friendly pit bull in the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

He's still there.. we are watching closely to make sure he isn't in danger of being put down. We have no place for him to go right now, so it is day to day - he is about 1 year old.. very, very sweet loveable boy! Neutered, up to date on all his shots... I fell in love with his sky blue eyes!!!! Found out after I met him that he has a hearing disability. Hard to tell, but he's very friendly. Special needs dog... going to need patience and love!!! He should be the only dog. We have had him out with other dogs, some he likes, some he doesn't... Our trainer has been working with him... he's been there too long. Someone help!

Louisville, KY: Border Collie Mix Needs a Home or Face Death

Speck (deaf)
Snuggles (non-deaf)

If you can help, please contact her: jaime.west1@gmail.com

I just feel so torn about what to do with them. My dad is really tired of having them so I’ve got to find a place for them soon. I just feel bad even thinking about taking them to a rescue. I’m not sure if it would be worse to put them down or take them to a rescue where they will probably live in a cage the rest of their life. I just don’t think the odds of them getting adopted is very good because of the fact that they are 9 ½ years old. They really are great girls. Here is a little synopsis about them:

They are 9 ½ year old  40 pound, border collie/husky mix. They are sisters from the same litter and have never been apart.  They would probably have to stay together because Speckles (Speck) is completely deaf.  She’s been deaf from birth but Snuggles has always taken good care of her.  She relies on Snuggles to come get her when it is time to come inside and to always point her in the right direction.  Snuggles definitely takes on the big sister role and always watches out for Speck.  Because of that I’m not sure if they would do well apart.  They are up to date on their vaccines and have never missed shots or anything.  They’ve both been really healthy dogs and I haven’t had much problems with either of them.  Sometimes Snuggles bladder gets a little weak (the vet says it probably happens when she is supposed to be in heat) but you just have to take her out a little more often for a week and then she’s back to normal.  Other than that they don’t have any health problems.  They have both had their complete senior blood work done and everything came out fine.  They are really great dogs, they just need somewhere to run a lot.  We are getting rid of them because we live on a hill and can’t really fence our backyard.  This means they have to be taken out on a leash all the time and with two kids in the house now we are kind of out of space.  They each weigh about 40 pounds so we all can’t cram in very well.  Also, they DO NOT get along with cats.  I think they think our cat is a really fat squirrel because they try to attack and eat her.  As a result they have to live on separate floors and I’m extremely concerned about if one of the kids ever got between them and the cat.  I’m sure they would get bitten and I just can’t worry about that right now.  They have never been around Lainey but they were SO GREAT with Logan.  He loved them and they loved him.  They were extremely protective and always watched out for him.  When they are a bunch of kids around they tend to bark just because they want to herd them all.  However, they seem to be really good with kids in their house. Snuggles has a pretty aggressive personality with other dogs just because she wants to be the alpha dog but we’ve never had any problems with her fighting another dog. When she goes to play with my in-laws dog they all run around like crazy but she definitely assumes the alpha role. Speck on the other hand is completely laid back and would immediately do great with any other dog. I’m not sure about other pets because they have only been around cats and dogs.  They really are great dogs and if I could keep them I would. We just tried to sell our house so that we could find a fenced backyard and we couldn’t sell it. So as a result I’m having to get rid of them.

Thank you so much for helping me find a place for them. I really don’t want to have to take them to a rescue, I would prefer to give them to a good home with people who love dogs and would take great care of them their last several years. I know they are old and most people don’t want older dogs but they have always been extremely healthy and I know they will be great pets for someone. Thank you again and please let me know if you hear anything. I’m kind of on a timeline because my dad said he really doesn’t want to keep them anymore. He just hates having to come home from work to feed them and take care of them. If someone is interested in them and you think they are a good home, I wouldn’t mind giving them a couple hundred bucks to cover their food for a little while. Thanks again and I look forward to any help you can give.

BOO NEEDS HELP!

Boo came into rescue last October, from a home in which she was named "Misery." And miserable she was.

She had spent the first three years of her life confined to a crate most of the time. The owner had gotten her as a puppy and been told that she was part Dalmatian. She is nearly all white, with spotted ears.

A DNA analysis revealed that there is no discernible Dal in her at all. She is really a Heinz 57 terrier mix. Three "minor" breeds were listed: AmStaff, Bull Terrier, and Westie.

We are now losing the foster home where Boo has been all these months. Our chances of placing her in a home are slim to none. We need some help. All our foster homes are full.

Boo is about three years old. She is a pretty girl, with blue eyes, and a coat longer than a Dal's. She is also deaf. All her vet work has been done. She has been spayed and all vaccinations are up to date. She has a good temperament.

Boo deserves a chance to have a real family and a good life. Please let me know if you can help! Thank you!

Sea Cliff, NY: Pit Bull Time is Up

Hello everyone,

This is Whitey. She's a white pitbull located at Glen Animal Hospital in Sea Cliff, NY and is in DESPERATE need for a caring and loving home. Whitey is as sweet as can be and is special in one unique way; she's deaf. She's been deaf her entire 2 years of life and just wants someone to love her. Unfortunately, Whitey has been in this shelter for a year and a half and hasn't found a home yet since she's deaf. The other urgent and unfortunate part is that if she doesn't find a home by next week, they're going to put her to sleep. I'm asking you all to PLEASE help Whitey find a good home before this amazing dog gets put down. I strongly believe that every dog, whether good or bad deserves a chance at life and deserves to be loved and cared for no matter what.

If you are not interested in Whitey, please be kind enough to pass this email around to everyone that you know so that someone can adopt her. This is very time sensitive, so don't wait until the last minute, every minute of life is crucial to this dog this week and I'm not going to have this dog put down because no one wants her.

If you are interested, please contact the Glen Animal Hospital at 516-671-2800. They are located at 209 Glen Cove Avenue, Sea Cliff, NY 11579.

Even if you or someone you know could foster him until she finds his permanent home, that would be great.

Name: Whitey
Age: 2 years old
Sex: Female
Color: white with some brown spots.
Shots: I believe she should be up to date with all his shots.
Training: Since she is deaf, you need to use hand gestures, almost like sign language to her. The shelter will be able to give you all the info you need.

Thank you all SO much for taking the time out to read this. I'm sure Whitey appreciates it too :)

Sincerely,
Christine Capobianco

Jeffersonville, IN: Cat Needs Somewhere to Go

Deaf Special Needs Cat in Need of New Home or Rescue! 2 yr old female, spayed, up to date on vaccines, FIV/FeLV negative. Southern Indiana area. If you can help please e-mail me immediately at pjarmstrong70@aol.com This cat will be taken to a kill shelter if we can not find her a place to go! She has some litter box issues and the owner is not willing to work with her on this. I have volunteered to take her to our vet and make sure she does not have a urinary tract infection. Also I will purchase a bag of Cat Attract cat litter to go with her wherever she is placed. Any help is greatly appreciated!

P.S. If anyone can offer their home to foster, that's an option as our rescue like many others are full and depend on availability on foster homes before one is taken in.

Please take a look at this stunning boy. He came in with his mate, the white Boxer on one of the pictures. Both were supposed to be picked up by their owner who never came. His mate is now going into foster care in Brooksville, FL but Romeo remains behind bars and since the facility is full, he is now in extreme danger of losing his life via heart stick euthanasia. Romeo is only around 2 years old and very sweet. After several tests, Romeo appears to be deaf! He does not respond to any kind of noise that he does not see, like clapping hands, squeaky toys, etc. He is more interested in the volunteers than at looking and sniffing other dogs. The volunteer who has worked with him said she would trust him with other females but not so much males, which is why the foster home in FL was unable to take him. He does not do that good with cats, no aggression but the volunteer thinks he would just try to snatch one if he could.

This 1-yr-old Aussie mix (?) is in a GA kill shelter and doesn't have much time left. He was adopted out in October but brought back because he has gone blind. They believe he is deaf, too. Neutered. Looks like an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix.

I think his name is Neptune. That was the file name for the photo, but the email on the dog didn't state his name. He is vetted and neutered. Someone is available to pull and hold this dog until transport can be arranged.

Watertown, CT: Cat Needs a Loving Home

Meet Andromeda, a 7 year old deaf kitty with one blue eye, and one green eye. Unlike most deaf kitties, who are only deaf on the sides with the blue eye, Andromeda is fully deaf. You can run a vacuum right next to her and she won't even twitch. Andromeda lived in one home for 7 years until her owners decided they could no longer take care of her, and had to bring her to a shelter. Through the work of a wonderful woman, Andromeda was saved from being euthanized, and placed in a foster home ready for adoption. Several months later, Andromeda was adopted and taken to a new home. This is where the unfortunately situation of finding her a new home comes in.

While Andromeda is incredibly snuggly and cuddly to humans, she does not like other cats. After being introduced to one very small kitty, Andromeda pounced. For the last 6 months, she has lived in medium sized rooms with a set of baby gates stacked up so she can see out, but not get to the other kitty. She has been on herbal remedies as well as medication prescribed by the vet, and yet her distrust of other cats remains.

This sweet girl is incredibly friendly and loves to snuggle. She walks freely up to new people she's never met before and looks for a scratch behind her ear. She purrs loudly, and likes to chat, and although she's deaf so can't hear your responses, she does respond well to hand gestures. She LOVES to play. She has a few stuffed mice she plays with, she plays with a mat that has catnip in it, and goes completely crazy for straws and the laser pointer. She'll follow the little light for hours before curling up against her human for a nap.

If you're looking for a new pet, a snuggly, affectionate, playful pet, please consider adopting Andromeda. She will not disappoint you. Vet references ARE required before you can adopt, and you must be aware that she will not be given to a home that has cats, or to people who plan to get more cats. She has had enough trauma in her life an now just needs to find her forever family. We are located in Connecticut, so if you are within driving distance, and are interested, please contact me here.

Islip, NY: Pit Bull Needs a Home or Sanctuary

Contact Deb at dabandolo@aol.com
I have a rescue dog named Frankie who has been in boarding on Long Island, New York for just about a year. He is approximately 2 years old, sweet, loving, and quite a handsome boy. He has been through training to learn hand signals, leash and obedience training. He is microchipped, up todate on shots...
He is very loved where he is but he has been there too long and we no longer have the funds to keep him there safe and cared for. Placement for Francis has proved to be difficult and we are in real need of finding him a home in a loving sanctuary where his needs can be met and he can thrive as he is. My rescue organization pulls all breeds from the city kill shelters frequently and Francis, renamed by his trainers was on the euth list so we saved him from the CACC'S high kill shelter, another disposable pit bull. If you have the space for Francis, we are really in need of getting him to his forever home as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Frankie's Story:
MEET FRANK HE WAS RESCUED FROM THE CACC LAST YEAR AND WHEN WE GOT HIM HE WAS SO DESTRUCTIVE HE WOULD JUST RIP EVERYTHING APART. WE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHERE HE WAS GETTING THIS ANXIETY FROM..WE WOULD TRY TO CORRECT HIM AND IT WAS LIKING HE WAS IGNORING WELL IT TURNS OUT HE WASN'T IGNORING WE WERE IGNORING HIM HE WAS DEAF AND WE DIDN'T KNOW...WE CONTACTED THE SHELTER AND GOT SOME MORE DETAILED INFO THAT THEY HAD NOT TOLD US PREVIOUSLY..FRANKIE WAS BEATEN UP SOME A BUNCH OF KIDS WITH STCIKS..HE CAN'T SEE OUT OF ONE OF HIS EYES..AND CONFIRMED BY OUR VET HE IS DEAF...CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING AT ALL....SO WHAT NOW...WE SENT HIM FOR SIGN LANGUAGE AND BOOT CAMP TRAINING WHICH HE IS STILL CURRENTLY AT ELITE TRAINING AND BOARDING FACILITY IN ISLIP LONG ISLAND..WE ARE PAYING $45.00 A DAY FOR HIM TO STAY THERE BECAUSE WE DON'T THINK HE WILL DO WELL IN OUR SHELTER WHERE HE CAN'T CONTINUE HIS SIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING ON A REGULAR BASIS.

WE ARE AWAITING FOR A SANCTUARY WHERE HE WILL LIVE THE REST OF HIS LIFE ON A FARM..
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP US WITH HIM.....TO HELP US HELP FRANKIE AND KEEP HIM SAFE AND HAPPY FOR THE REMAINDER OF HIS LIFE... WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN EUTHANASIA UNLESS AN ANIMAL IS SUFFERING AND THERE IS NOTHING MEDICALLY MORE WE CAN DO TO SAVE THEM... OPEN YOUR HEART TO FRANKIE...HE DESERVES IT!!!

Sacramento, CA: Siberian Husky Needs a Home

I have a 10 month old Red & White Siberian Husky. I am not able to keep him because I am a F/T student. Azlahn does well w/larger dogs. He does NOT DO WELL w/cats and/or smaller breed dogs at all. This may because of the hunting instincts & the breed. He needs to have a fenced yard, preferably newer wood due to his escape artist techniques. He's very loving, & loves kids & would love to have a play buddy (dog) that can handle rough play. Although Azlahn loves children, you will have to supervise him around children because he will knock down the smaller children to give kisses. I rescued Azlahn from the pound, but there's more to his story. Azlahn will only go to a very loving home, & someone who knows about the Siberian Husky breed. I would like someone who is hearing (or deaf is definitely okay) and is fluent in sign language because Azlahn has partial hearing in his left ear and deaf in his right ear. He can hear if you raise your voice. I have been teaching him sign language. (hand signals) Below are pictures of Azlahn. If you have any questions or would like to know more about Azlahn's story, please email me. ONLY SERIOUS PEOPLE NEED TO APPLY. Azlahn will not just go to any one. He is very special, & before I & Azlahn choose his person or family they have to be special too. Because he is pure breed, already fixed/altered, microchipped, has tested negative for heart worm, had bordetella and rabies shots, he is very healthy. I'm asking for a $150 re-homing fee.

I am helping my friend. If you are interested in Azlahn, please send an email to Kristeena at kthaten@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you soon - we would appericate your help!!

Thanks, Kristeena

Springfield, MO: Husky Mix's May Be Euthanized Today

This dog was posted last friday:

If you would like to adopt this dog, please call the Humane Society at 417 833 2526

His stray hold is up. He's not doing well in that environment. He can't hear anyone approaching and can barely see so he just stays hanging back, timid and doesn't interact with the public. That's not truly his personality though, it's just that he's stuck in the kennels that he doesn't act like himself. He learned to sit and shake in one day with hand signals so I know he's got an active brain in there!
